The Toe Rag’s next issue will be published in October 2026. The theme is not yet announced.
The submission window will be 18th May – 1st June 2026.
What We Publish
The Toe Rag publishes formally ambitious non-fiction, fiction, poetry and artworks. The magazine is concerned with contemporary culture, particularly visual art, performance, politics, philosophy and literature. We favour work that is intellectually rigorous, stylistically controlled and willing to test the boundaries between criticism and creation. We recommend reading past writing in the magazine before submitting.
We accept proposals of up to 300 words and full essays of up to 3,000 words. Proposals should clearly indicate structure, content and intended word count and must be accompanied by a writing sample, published or unpublished. For poetry, please do not send more than five poems. For fiction, please do not send more than three pages (can be an excerpt of a longer piece). For arts and book reviews, please send an expression of interest with a writing sample.
All submissions should be sent to hello@thetoerag.com, along with a short bio. Due to the high volume of proposals we receive, we can only respond to successful submissions.
